We are happy to introduce indigo, the newest artist to contribute to our window Artist Series. We caught up with indigo to hear the story behind one of the most talked about installs of the series…

I am and always have been a collector at heart – old things with no apparent use or value catch my eye the most.  The objects contained in this installation were either found in the street, in the garbage, at flea markets, thrift stores and salvage yards, or given to me by friends and strangers.  From small brass unicorns to pages torn from old books, worn leather suitcases and painted portraits of nameless families, it is a collection of other people’s memories.

More and more lately I have been exploring the anonymous narratives retained in objects and ephemera that have long since passed from their original owners’ hands through countless others to end up resting in mine.  I am interested in the means with which we imbue the things we love with energies and stories.  Curious how I might engage those residual echoes, layer them with stories of my own, create something new out of what may otherwise be forgotten, laid aside, left to gather dust.

These are the odds and ends of strangers’ stories, but in working with them they become a part of my own, and that of the viewer in turn.  It is my hope that the window will evolve over the course of the month, as I find new things to add to the collection.  My aim is to create an environment that invites each visitor to draw their own conclusions, find a sense of nostalgia, reawaken a childlike delight in these treasures that would, in another context, often be seen as trash.

The lululemon lab is proud to introduce a new partnership with local Vancouver artisans. In the spirit of supporting local artists and businesses, we will be featuring pieces from Vancouver artist’s in our window on the corner of broadway and cambie. We are so fortunate that we live in a city that cultivate’s and fosters creativity. The Artist Series is a gentle reminder about the importance of supporting local art and entrepreneur’s in our own community.
