Kerstin Dougherty’s Bio

Certified Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Instructor

(RYS 200)

My personal yoga journey began a couple of years ago in my native Austria.  I was seeking relief and rejuvenation from my work as a palliative care and chronic pain nurse.

At first, yoga was to help me address physical stress. However, due to my move to Vancouver in 2011, I was to discover how mentally and spiritually stabilizing yoga could be. In a time of tremendous transition and change in my life, it became a grounding and supportive force.  Yoga made me feel whole and shaped me without force or demand.

Living in Vancouver gave me access to some amazing yoga teachers and opened up the opportunity to explore different yoga styles. I fell in love with the dynamic, playful, yet challenging styles of Flow Yoga, Power Yoga and Ashtanga Vinyasa.  I soon decided to deepen my practice. Early in 2012, I traveled to Thailand, to attend an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Teacher Course.

Aside from Yoga, traveling is also a passion of mine and I now take my yoga practice with me wherever I go. Due to my curious and questioning nature I remain a lifelong student. I attend workshops on an ongoing basis and will be trained in Therapeutic Yoga by Susi Hately in June 2012. My passion has become my new profession. Today I am very happy to share my love, affection and knowledge of yoga by teaching others.

Ashtanga Vinyasa is a style of Hatha Yoga. It focuses on the practice of breath/body synchronization called “Vinyasa”. As we move through our practice in a dynamic flow we create internal heat and a meditative state within the physical practice through the flow of movements. The asanas correlate with the topics presented in the workshops, change & transformation and drishti & focus. An interactive concept invites you to take active parts, gives space for open conversations and incorporates chakras and meditation.

I invite you to attend my class to explore, evolve, shine and be playful!

Love & Blessings,

Kerstin
